Handmade Clay Horse Head Statue “Friesian”
Original, one-of-a-kind black horse head statue by horse artist Jen Pratt – a friesian horse with all of its classic attributes: strong musculature, long thick mane, and shiny coat.
“Friesian” has a three-part finish: deep bronze underlay, covered by sheer polished black, topped with brilliant silver highlights on the muscles, giving the sculpture an immense sense of depth.
Black horse statues have a certain elegance about them, and this finish gives a classy sheen to an old favorite.
Fired ceramic horse sculpture on black wooden base. Finish is protected by a high gloss, non-fired glaze that will keep this sculpture beautiful for many years to come. Ceramic artworks by Jen are kiln fired, not air dried, and will last for generations if properly cared for.
Actual sculpture size: 13″ high x 11″ wide x 8″ deep; minimum shipping size 18″ high x 16″ wide x 16″ deep.

- The clay used was similar to this low fire white clay, which is my current clay.
- I used acrylic black paint for the base (Mars Black is my preference), and Amaco Rub n’ Buff Metallic Finishes, layering several different metallic finishes to get the metallic effect.
- Krylon Triple Thick Crystal Clear Glaze for the ultra protective finish (seriously, nothing can scratch this finish using this non-fired, non-yellowing glaze!).
